Drones are used for “indoor mapping”. In Yachats, Waldport, Seal Rock, basically all of Lincoln County Oregon, there are hundreds of vacation homes rentals being marketed to the public. By using hi-tech mapping tools, floor plans and unique features can be showcased to increase interest in the property.
West Coast Drone Services captures a home or building’s floor plan using specialized drone technology and equipment. Here’s a basic idea of how indoor mapping works.
Indoor Positioning Systems
Drones used for indoor mapping and floor plan capture are equipped with indoor positioning systems. Including optical flow sensors, ultrasonic sensors, or computer vision algorithms. These systems allow the drone to maintain its position and orientation inside the building. Even when GPS signals are not available.
High-Resolution Cameras
Presently, our drones are equipped with “state of the art” high-res cameras. As a result, they capture sensational images of a building’s interior. After photographing, images are eventually processed using “photogrammetry” software. This process leads to a detailed 3D model of the building’s interior.
Mapping Software
All in all, mapping software processes the images captured by the drone’s cameras. It combines them to create a 2D floor plan of the building. The software extracts information such as room dimensions, door and window locations, and other architectural details.
Data Processing
Eventually, the media captured by the drone is processed and analyzed to create an accurate and detailed representation of the building’s floor plan. This is used for a variety of purposes, including architectural planning, space utilization analysis, and energy modeling.
Flight Planning
Our drones are programmed to fly specific patterns through the building. This is accomplished by manually flying through the home or building and setting the position(s) and angles where photos will be taken. The flight plan is now “pre-programmed”. Modifications to the plan can be manually inputted using the drone’s remote controller.
In summary, drones are equipped with:
- indoor positioning systems
- high-resolution cameras
- mapping software
Drones are used indoors to photograph a building’s floor plan. All things considered, this gives architects, builders, and property managers with a detailed and accurate representation of the building’s interior.
Finally, indoor mapping with drones is particularly useful for large or complex buildings with multiple floors. It allows for a more efficient and complete assessment of the entire space. Additionally, the 3D model generated by the mapping software will be used by realtors for “virtual walk-throughs”.
